South Georgia Island

The mountainous island of South Georgia, which is covered by glaciers over large parts, is located in the South Atlantic, approximately on the same latitude as Tierra del Fuego. Millions of macaroni penguins live on the island and one can also find the most important breeding area for king penguins here. Different species of seals, including elephant seals and fur seals, defy the inhospitable climate of the island, which is home to only a few people.
